The Workshop
In this class you will learn how to ideate, prepare, and think within a 2-color workflow to create an edition of 25 2-color Risograph prints.
Located at the TXTbooks studio, this 3 hour hands-on workshop will be limited to 8 participants per session and will be taught by two partners in the project – Nichole Shinn and Robert Blair.
The class will begin with a primer into the process of Risograph printing – what it is, what it’s good at, what it’s bad at, and how to use it as a tool in your artistic practice. After a hands-on session with the printer, we will go through the key process of color separation with a focus on three different types of work to be printed: spot color Illustrations, process color photographs and imagery, and flat graphic
From there, the class will have a working session to prepare and separate your files to print with one-on-one help from the instructors. We will teach you how to get everything ready for a printer, and a dedicated Dropbox folder for your newly separated images.
After the in-class session is complete, your personal editions of 25 prints up to 11”x17” will be printed by the instructors and mailed out the following week. In addition to your edition, you will receive a print pack with one print from everyone else who signed up for a Summer Session class – up to 24 unique prints in total to start your own collection.
Required Materials
- →A laptop or machine with access to Photoshop or image editing software. If you do not have Photoshop, Spectrolite is a free app that we will demo (but is Mac-Only). We will also have a limited number of machines on hand to use if you do not have your own.
- →An existing artwork, illustration, photograph or graphic that you want to turn into a 2-color edition. This can be a digital file, or an analog work that we can scan at the studio.
